Aaron grew up on a hobby farm, loves animals, and finds healing in nature. Aaron loves to travel, explore new places, and experience different cultures. Aaron resides in Muskoka, is a proud gay man, a loving ‘guncle’ to many niblings and is a proud dog dad to his pup Arya. Aaron brings his professional expertise and also his lived experience to his work as a registered psychotherapist at positive space consulting.
Growing up ‘different’ in a small town, Aaron knows what it feels like to feel as though no one understands you. This is far too often a shared experience amongst those of us who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Coming out to friends and family can be overwhelming. We can feel shame and fear, yet also experience deep purpose and joy. Aaron has spent over seventeen years working in the addiction and mental health field supporting others who don’t have the skills or resources to cope with the pain of not feeling understood.
Aaron believes that balance is the key for many things, especially our health which involves caring for ourselves emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. This looks and feels different for everyone, so client centered, anti-oppressive practice is at the centre of Aaron’s work.
Aaron’s priority is to develop a genuine therapeutic relationship with you so that you have a safe space to be yourself. Aaron understands that sometimes it takes courage and patience to fully explore and understand who we are, what our values are, and what it takes to live a life that feels meaningful. Aaron believes that being visible shouldn’t leave us feeling vulnerable. He also understands that being able to see and fully accept ourselves isn’t always easy, but certainly possible. Aaron is inspired to support people on their journey to willful living.Living life willfully means taking action, by making decisions that are important to us and true to who we are. No action is too small, every step counts and is important!
Aaron is a registered psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and holds his International Certified Alcohol and Drug Counsellor certification with the Canadian Addiction Counsellor Certification Federation.
