What do you think when you think of therapy? When you think of connecting with a therapist, what are some of your hopes?
My name is Adrian and I'll be honest-I couldn't answer these questions either when I first sought a therapist. I knew it was something I should do, or something I was told to do, but wasn't sure what the end results would be, the benefits that could come from it, and the value it could add to my life. My hope in working with you is to create an open space where we can not only explore your hopes of therapy, but collaborate together to bring those hopes to life. But how do we go about this?
It starts by connecting and understanding if we are a good “fit” for each other. Do we mesh, align, and most importantly, do you feel that we can build safety together? As a queer, neurodivergant social worker, I can appreciate how isolating things can feel, or that things feel like we don't belong into the spaces we occupy such as work, school, or home.
I fundamentally believe that lack of belonging is a system issue, not an individual one. You are not broken, you do not need to be “cured”, or “mended”, but you deserve to belong, to feel safe, to feel trust, and to feel assured. Rather, our system devoted to capitalism, patriarchy, colonization, and white supremacy places us in positions to be isolated.
I believe that in our therapeutic work together, we can build a space for authenticity to shine, for your dreams to be shared, and have your values be lived in your day to day life. We can collaborate in ways to highlight not only how you are resisting systems of domination, but explore how you can continue to resist by being your most authentic self.
If this sounds like a journey you'd like to explore with me, please connect with me for a free 20 minute consultation. Through this, we can figure out if we are a good fit for each other and look at starting this collaborative journey together.
